Oral Vestibular Shield (OVS):

Simple and inexpensive, this removable brace resembles a pacifier, but only consists of a simple silicon or plastic plate, which is located in the oral vestibule between the lips and the incisors. There is usually a handle that protrudes between the lips. The OVS is often used in early treatment of children of primary school age, to close an open bite or improve the mouth’s closure. Although good results can be observed with the MVP in some favorable cases, their use is not very well founded scientifically. Unfortunately, studies on treatment success and failure, long-term benefits, and the cost of such measures are almost lacking completely. Regardless, toddlers are difficult to motivate with disciplined wearing of the OVS, bringing the OVS question mostly done by itself. Since OVS is cheap, the experiment is at least an innocent trial.
