It is useful in excluding general pathological things such as fractures (broken bones), illnesses involving tumours and other bone disorders. But the panoramic X-ray contributes nothing to the actual diagnosis of muscle pain. It is important to stress that diagnoses such as arthrosis or a compressed jaw joint (narrow joint space) cannot be deduced with any certainty from a panoramic X-ray.
