Complete Nonsense: Paediatric-orthodontic examination guidelines

In 2010, a „Paediatric-Orthodontic Examination Handbook“ was published in two editions by the Professional Association of German Orthodontists and the Professional Association of Paediatricians. It was supposed to prompt paediatricians nationwide to examine children on orthodontic grounds and refer them to an orthodontist.

In an open letter to the national and state divisions of both organisations it was demanded that this handbook be withdrawn. Nationwide screening for orthodontic findings cannot be justified on rational grounds and would simply unleash a wave of medically-pointless early treatment.
