Non-Occlusion

This term refers to an incorrect bite of the molars whereby the chewing surfaces of opposing teeth do not make any contact at all. In Germany this finding is also called “Scherenbiss” (= scissor bite). As a rule, non-occlusion should be treated because, if it is not, this could lead to an increasing number of tilting teeth and could also result in the teeth biting into the gum. But, in some cases where non-occlusion just affects individual teeth, these teeth could continue to remain stable for the whole of a person’s life.
