The bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO)

The bilateral sagittal split osteotomy is a orthognathic surgery technique regarding the splitting of the mandible on both sides in a sagittal direction on the ascending dental branches. The tooth-bearing middle section can then be moved forwards or backwards and then fixed immediately with surgical miniplates and screws. The BSSO is a technique which was developed in the seventies of the last century and has been continuously improved ever since.
